This is an exciting addition to the 2022 Outback trim lineup. A rugged and utility-focused SUV for anyone looking for a new adventure, the Wilderness comes with a lot of amazing upgrades. We'll be sure to have this trim in stock at Fitzgerald Subaru of Gaithersburg as soon as we can.

Rugged Performance

The Wilderness is designed for off-roading and has an engine to keep up with that. Its 2.4-liter BOXER® engine is borrowed from some of the other rugged Outback trims, and it generates the same great 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque. This engine, of course, drives the same Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive Subaru is known for, and the wheels are fitted with all-terrain tires.

The Wilderness also comes with an upgraded dual-function X-MODE, which allows you to select between different terrains like deep snow, sand and mud to get optimal grip in the wild. The improved gearing on the Wilderness also allows you to climb up 40-percent-grade incline at low speeds.

An Exterior Built for Off-Roading

There are a lot of things to love about the style and utility of the Outback Wilderness's body. The anodized copper-finish accents in the front and rear look fantastic while also cleverly hiding tow points. The like-accents on the roof rails serve to remind you that they're rated for 700 pounds, allowing you to safely use a rooftop tent. You'll also find a unique matte black hood decal to reduce glare when you're outside Rockville.

The front and rear bumpers have been redesigned to offer greater approach and departure angles, and the ground clearance has been heightened to 9.5 inches. If you ever do find yourself scraping against something, you can rest easy with the skid plate there to protect the Wilderness's underbelly.

A Strong Interior

Speaking of durability, the StarTex® upholstery is waterproof and hardy, so your seating will stay comfortable for a long time to come. The back of the second row also has a waterproof material over it so that you can safely fold them down to provide a protected surface for any supplies you left in the rain. You'll also find stylish anodized copper accents in the cabin on the steering wheel and gear shift.

The Outback Wilderness comes standard with the STARLINK® Multimedia Plus infotainment system with an 11.6-inch touchscreen. You can add navigation to that, or you can stick with the terrific Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ integration, SiriusXM®, HD Radio® and more.

Stellar Subaru Safety

Subaru's EyeSight® driver-assist technology is standard on the Wilderness, and Subaru has retuned it to work even better with the new ground clearance and performance improvements. You can expect fantastic execution of the Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Centering, Pre-collision Braking and more.

When you're driving around Germantown, MD after a long day on the trails, you can expect Blind-Spot Detection with Lane Change Assist to help keep you out of an accident. If you signal to merge into a lane that the system detects has a car in your blind spot, it will warn you with a flashing indicator. Similarly, if you're backing out of a parking space and the system detects that you're backing into the path of another vehicle, the alert will flash and give you an audible warning.
